For this publication academics in seven countries reviewed issues relating to independence. The resulting essays confirm that ndependence is fundamental to the principle and practice of voluntary action as they elucidate how independence can be threatened and power exercised over the activities of the voluntary sector. The writers share lessons on what voluntary organisations can do to maintain and protect their independence.
